Loon Planning to Install Mountain Coaster

The mountain coaster would help to provide a wider variety of outdoor activities at the area.

Loon Mountain is requesting permission from the US Forest Service to install a mountain coaster this spring. The attraction could be operated year-round and is seen as a way to provide variety while also introducing customers unfamiliar with skiing and mountain biking to those core sports.

Mountain coasters use elevated rails and integrated uphill lifts while allowing users to control their speed on the downhill portion of the ride.

According to the application submitted to the Forest Service, the 1,500 foot uphill track would be adjacent to the Kissin' Cousins Double, while the downhill track would be 3,000 feet long with a vertical drop of 320 feet. The proposed location is near the new Kanc8 chairlift, which will be serving expanded downhill mountain biking terrain this summer.

If approved, the mountain coaster could begin operations early this summer and would be the forth installed in New Hampshire, following Attitash, Cranmore, and Gunstock.
