Sunkid Eagle Coaster: Mountain Coaster as a highlight

Cypress Mountain was the competition venue for freestyle skiing and snowboarding during the Olympic Winter Games of 2010. The site is, however, not only known for winter sports, but also as a hiking area and for geocaching that is offered on the terrain. Starting this year, the mountain railway is also drawing guests with its “Eagle Coaster”.

This expansion of the offering reaches an even broader target group, positioning the location as a year-round destination. “We are very happy about the initial feedback and our guests’ enthusiasm. Of course, we are delighted that the Eagle Coaster is attracting such a broad range of guests,” says Russell Chamberlain, president and general manager of Cypress Mountain.

The Mountain Coaster not only draws locals from Vancouver, but also international guests on holiday in and around the city.

The adventure commences with a ride in the “Eagle Express Quad” chairlift onto the peak of Black Mountain, from where the Eagle Coaster ride sets out. 70 blue toboggans carry their riders down the approx. 1700 m long monorail track. The rail’s proximity to the ground makes the speed, which can be regulated directly by a hand brake, felt a lot more intensely. The route leads through the forest and along the Cypress Mountain skiing slopes with their many waves, jumps, and great vantage points, such as a panoramic curve with an amazing view of Vancouver. The ride covers 279 altitude metres.

Since the Cypress Mountain serves as a skiing area in winter, some route elements of the monorail track are removed for that season. The route is easy to assemble and can be set up again quickly by mountain railway employees when the summer season starts.
