Sugarloaf announces "Dutchman Woods," the largest real estate development at an eastern ski resort since the 1970s

The most anticipated development at Sugarloaf in decades, Dutchman Woods will feature 20 single-family residential lots with 360-degree views, high levels of privacy

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine –Mountainside Real Estate—Sugarloaf’s official real estate agency—officially announced “Dutchman Woods,” the largest real estate development at a ski resort in the East since the 1970s. Part of the expansive West Mountain expansion, Dutchman Woods is the first neighborhood in the area’s multi-phase residential development plan, setting the tone for one of Sugarloaf's most anticipated projects in decades.

Featuring 20 single-family residential lots with ski-in/ski-out access, Dutchman Woods is a generational opportunity to create a quintessentially Sugarloaf vision, taking shape as one of the most dramatic residential destinations in the East. The high elevation at Dutchman Woods insures incomparable 360-degree views, while preserving a level of privacy rarely available to on-mountain residents. Designers have taken care to embrace the natural flow of the dramatic topography, guaranteeing that no two lots are the same.

West Mountain is the largest acreage terrain expansion since the 1970s, with an additional 83 acres of snowmaking terrain expected to be developed in just one year. The East’s closest scale of acreage increase was the construction of Whitetail Mountain Resort in 1991, although that involved the construction of an entirely new resort. It is larger in every aspect than Okemo Ski Resort’s Jackson Gore and on par with Sunday River’s Outback, which was developed over four decades ago.

“The significance and magnitude of this expansion cannot be overstated,” said Karl Strand, President and General Manager of Sugarloaf. “West Mountain is the largest acreage terrain expansion in the East since the late 1970s. We are proud to be opening up a real estate development where families can make memories for a lifetime, and where novice and intermediate skiers can enjoy the skiing and snowboarding on terrain that is well suited to their abilities.”
