New England: 2023 Lift Construction Roundup

Lifts are being constructed in four New England states this off-season.

Though snow still lingers in many places, ski lift projects are continuing to move forward across New England this month.

Berkshire East

The only new lift currently slated for Southern New England is the summit high speed quad at Berkshire East. Trees were recently cleared for the upper part of the lift line, connecting Upper Competition to the top of Mt. Institute. The lift is one of two Leitner-Poma brand projects slated for New England this year.

Sunday River

Sunday River continues to dominate the New England lift market this decade, as two more chairlifts are scheduled to be installed this year. The haul rope has been removed from the outgoing Barker chairlift and the summit area will be reworked to make way for the larger six-person bubble terminal. Lift components are already being staged for the two Doppelmayr installations.

Pleasant Mountain

The former Jordan high speed quad is now being stored near Boyne's Pleasant Mountain ski area, possibly for a 2024-25 installation.

Attitash

Attitash has removed the chairs from the outgoing Summit Triple and the lift line has been widened to make way for the new high speed quad.

Loon

Loon is wasting no time with its South Peak expansion, as work has already begun on the base footing for the new Doppelmayr fixed grip chairlift. The new novice and intermediate trails were cleared earlier this year.
