Snowbasin: Exciting Projects to Enhance Guest Experience – New DeMoisy Express
Snowbasin Resort continues to showcase its commitment to enhancing guest experience with the announcement of significant investments into this world-renowned mountain destination. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the resort will complete several projects, including the construction of a new high-speed chairlift, expanded parking, a new patio with additional dining capabilities and more improvements to its world-class amenities.
Snowbasin has continually invested in the property over its 80 years of operation to ensure an unparalleled guest experience at the family-owned resort. With this announcement, the lift upgrades alone bring the resort’s recent total up to a remarkable three lifts in four years. These and the additional projects outlined below will mark Snowbasin’s largest investment into the resort since the 1999 Olympic transformation of the property when they shaped the destination into the premier establishment it is today.
„It’s rewarding to be a part of an organization that is so committed to investing in preserving and bettering this historic mountain playground for the enjoyment of many generations to come. The projects we are undertaking enhance our accessibility and every guest’s on-mountain experience.“ Davy Ratchford, Vice President and General Manager of Snowbasin Resort
Construction is underway for the highly anticipated six-person lift for the upcoming 2023-24 season. This addition will double the uphill capacity of the Strawberry area of the mountain, provide improved access to the resort base area and feature enhanced wind protection.
DeMoisy Express, aptly named after the historic DeMoisy Peak that it will be nestled beneath, will add to our award-winning advanced lift system. The bottom terminal will be positioned near the existing Strawberry Gondola bottom terminal. The top terminal will drop passengers in a wind-protected area above Dan’s Run.
Through this strategic placement, we will be able to double the uphill capacity of this region, provide multiple options for skiers and riders into the Strawberry area, and allow access to this varied and sought-after terrain more frequently throughout the season. Additional benefits include the creation of new trails, more convenient access to the main base area and additional capacity to relieve congestion in the Strawberry area on busier days.
DeMoisy Express will be Snowbasin's 13th lift and the most recent addition since the new Middle Bowl Express in 2021. As with Middle Bowl, the resort will be working with Leitner POMA of America for the manufacturing and installation of this project. The new chairlift will have the ability to transport 2,400 riders every hour, with bottom-to-top service in approximately ten minutes.
A new patio is coming to the Strawberry area alongside the highly anticipated DeMoisy Express. Spanning from the northwest portion of Strawberry Lodge and encompassing over 5,000 square feet, this new patio will offer guests an additional spot to rest and refuel before returning to the slopes. It features a heated cobblestone patio with over 180 seats and multiple dining options. This project is scheduled to be completed for the debut of DeMoisy Express in mid-December.
Snowbasin will further solidify its standing as the resort with the most parking in the Rocky Mountain Region with 124 additional parking stalls under construction now in Canyon Rim, scheduled to be ready by Opening Day. This addition is the second parking expansion Snowbasin has taken on in the past three years. With free shuttle service from the lots to the slopes, Snowbasin aims to provide more accessibility than ever before.
More of Snowbasin’s award-winning restrooms are coming to the Grizzly Center on the ground-level. 14 stalls will be added as the resort aims to increase accessibility for guests year-round. The resort will maintain the high-quality design these amenities have been famed for within the construction, expected to be completed ahead of the coming winter season.
With this new addition, Snowbasin will lead into the upcoming winter season with 13 lifts. DeMoisy Express closely follows the recent upgrade of Middle Bowl Express in 2021 and Wildcat Handle Tow installation in 2020. Snowbasin’s lift system is recognized across the industry, most recently ranked No. 2 by SKI Magazine in 2022.
