LEITNER is building a modern connection in the Benasque Valley in Spain

A major LEITNER project is currently under construction in Spain. From the coming winter season, the 10-seater gondola lift “Benasque” will relieve individual traffic between the towns of Benasque and Cerler all year round and contribute to the further development of tourism in the region. LEITNER was able to win the public tender thanks to its innovative technologies and strong focus on sustainability and efficiency.

The local administration in the Benasque Valley is eagerly awaiting the launch of one of the region's most prestigious projects: the new 10-seater gondola lift “Benasque” not only plays a central role in the further development of tourism but will also sustainably improve the quality of life for the local population. With LEITNER winning the public tender, the signing of the contract in January, and the construction work already started, this farsighted investment of almost 13 million euros is now becoming a reality, piece by piece.

The new LEITNER ropeway will have a total of 53 Premium Cabins Diamond EVO, equipped with internal ski and bike racks, and will carry up to 2,400 people per hour. With a maximum speed of six metres per second, it will cover the route between Benasque and the ski resort of Cerler in just 5 minutes and 47 seconds. This improves the connection between the towns and offers a fast and efficient alternative to the current road transport.

In addition to the direct effects on air quality and tourism, the new ropeway should also help position the region as a pioneer in the environment and transport in the Aragonese Pyrenees and consolidate Benasque’s role as one of the country’s most important mountain destinations. To ensure optimum energy efficiency and sustainability, the new ropeway will be equipped with LEITNER DirectDrive and four LeitDrives. With its combination of technological innovation and environmental friendliness, the LEITNER facility will meet these requirements to the highest level, while at the same time promising visitors and locals a unique way to travel and experience the landscape, all year-round.
