Garaventa and Frey Stans are joining forces

It has been official since 1 April 2026: Frey AG Stans has been fully integrated into Garaventa AG. This step brings together two entities that have been closely linked technologically and strategically for years. This creates a strong unit within the Doppelmayr Group. With around 540 employees, Garaventa now combines the expertise of both companies under a single umbrella organisation. The Frey sites in Stans/Oberdorf and Sion will remain in place and continue to operate as branches. The employees have been seamlessly integrated into the Garaventa team, and Benedikt Wittwer has joined the management team. Projects, customer relationships and partnerships will continue as usual.

For decades, Frey Stans has been synonymous with reliable ropeway control systems and technical precision. A recent example is the integration of the Connect control system for special cableways and the ESFOR energy storage system, which are used on the world’s steepest reversible cableway, the Stechelberg–Mürren line on the Schilthorn. These capabilities are now an integral part of the Garaventa portfolio. The “Frey Stans” brand will not be continued, but its technologies and expertise will form a key component of the joint innovation strategy going forward.

The integration will bring processes in project management, development, customer service, administration and IT more closely together. The aim is to offer comprehensive cable car solutions from a single source and, in particular, to further expand the after-sales sector. The merger creates a stable foundation for the joint development of digital solutions, for even more efficient project management and for long-term competitiveness.
