POMA: The Dehradun?Mussoorie Ropeway is Taking Shape

Redefining Mountain Mobility

Exciting milestones are being achieved on-site in Uttarakhand! Construction is progressing on India’s longest passenger aerial ropeway system—a landmark project set to fundamentally transform travel between Dehradun and the Mussoorie hill station.

Spanning 5.5 km and ascending a steep 1,000 meters, this project will soon rank among the longest mono-cable ropeway systems in the world.

What used to be a heavily congested 1.5-hour mountain drive is being transformed into a seamless 15-minute aerial journey, designed to integrate sustainably into its environment.

On-Site Construction Update
The momentum on the ground is remarkable:
  • Work has actively started on several major towers along the alignment, some already completed and others under construction.
  • At the Purkul Lower Terminal, foundation works are complete and site developments are progressing rapidly.
Structural leveling and steel binding are advancing steadily at the Mussoorie Upper Terminal near Gandhi Chowk.

This public-private partnership (PPP) with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board goes beyond cutting-edge infrastructure—it represents a major step forward for more sustainable tourism, significantly reducing traffic-related emissions and congestion on fragile mountain roads.
Kudos to the teams at MSCCPL for pushing the boundaries of what is possible in urban and mountain mobility.
