Brian Head Resort expansion plan for public review and comment

The Cedar City Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest (DNF) would like to notify you about the availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Brian Head Resort Expansion and is seeking public comment on the DEIS.

The proposed action on National Forest System (NFS) lands would expand Brian Head Resort’s existing Special Use Permit (SUP) by 1,651 acres to a total SUP boundary of 2,538 acres. Projects include 359 acres of new ski trails; 14 new lifts; 19 miles of new snowmaking lines (covering 189 acres of ski terrain); four new on-mountain restaurants, and eleven new ski patrol spaces. Other activities include constructing up to 10 miles of new administrative roads and improving up to five miles of existing roadbeds, installing up to 13 miles of new utilities, and eliminating 5 miles of state managed snowmobile routes. The proposed project requires amending the DNF Land and Resources Management Plan to convert 1,155 acres of the existing and proposed SUP to Management Area 1B - Winter Sports Sites to ensure consistency with scenery management system direction. Detailed project information, including the DEIS, is available on the project website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/dixie/projects/292353. The DEIS analyzes the potential impacts of the proposed action, a no action alternative, and two additional action alternatives generated from public comment.
