Killington Team Grows Stronger with Leadership Team Additions and Managerial Promotions

Summer 2026 has been defined so far by what’s new at The Beast. Killington got new Adventure Center attractions and Bike Park upgrades already here, plus new lifts, more snowmaking upgrades, and even a new lodge on the horizon.

What we haven’t talked about as much are the people behind several of those same upgrades, many of whom have recently received promotions or joined the team. Let’s take a look at a few of the many, many people who help keep this place running every day.

Jordan Spear, our new Vice President of Mountain Operations, started his Killington journey nearly two decades ago at the same place many other folks have: the Resort & Hospitality Management program based here in Killington. Other places offered similar types of degrees, but he was drawn here in particular by the resort’s direct connection to the program. Since graduating in 2009, he’s held numerous titles across the resort, including at the Pico Fitness Center, in Guest Services, and in Marketing. He first joined our Resort Leadership Team in 2019 as Director of Marketing, Sales & Reservations before being promoted to Vice President of Resort Services & Sales in 2025, overseeing all skier service revenue and guest service areas.

Of the many accomplishments in his time at Killington, Jordan says he’s most proud of helping launch the Beast 365 Pass back in 2018, an offering that felt especially ahead of its time. “To my knowledge, we were the first ones in the industry to do that,” he says. When asked about his favorite memory from his time at The Beast, Jordan thinks fondly about all he learned working alongside Sharon Glaser, our longtime Guest Services Manager who sadly passed away this past spring. If you were a Killington passholder for long enough, you surely had the pleasure of interacting with Sharon and know exactly why she had such a lasting impact on this community.

In his new role, Jordan has been embracing plenty of new responsibilities, including helping evaluate options for the future Outpost lift at Pico. He’s looking forward to being on the hill more this winter, but with a closer eye than ever on what's happening across the mountain. It’s not all business on the slopes, though—despite a busy schedule, Jordan particularly enjoys getting out to ski with his young daughter: “It’s a lot of fun to see her progress and being able to [show her] new parts of the mountain.”

Rob Frei, the newest member of our Resort Leadership Team and our new Vice President of Resort Services & Sales, took somewhat of a circuitous route to get where he is today. After initially moving to Vermont in 1997 to attend Castleton University, Rob worked at Killington for a few years before moving back to Long Island, where he owned a swimming pool services company. Before the birth of their first son, he and his wife had to decide whether to raise him in Long Island or Vermont, though they didn’t have to think too much about it in the end—Rob says that it was a “no-brainer decision.” Subsequently, he returned to Killington as our Retail Manager in October 2016.

“I distinctly remember feeling like it was an amazing time to come on board,” he says reflecting back to that time. And for good reason—Killington was soon to host its first-ever Audi FIS Ski World Cup race. “It was great watching everybody come together to put on such an amazing, huge event.” Since then, Rob has been proud of how he’s helped bring together a retail team that has largely stuck together for the past ten years. (Spoiler alert: we’ll be talking about one of those team members here in just a bit.)

In 2025, Rob was promoted to Director of Retail and Golf, adding our Pro Shop and Golf Maintenance teams to his purview. Rob will now continue to oversee Retail and Golf while also leading the rest of our resort services teams, including Group Sales, Guest Services, Mountain Sports, and more. He’s excited to continue getting to know all his new team members, but the best part of his new gig may be the new location. Having moved offices from Killington Sports at Route 4 to our Upper Admin building, he’s now just a few steps from the slopes during the wintertime. “I’m actually looking forward to getting more days on the hill now that I’m closer to it,” he says.

Reid Brechner, our new Senior Manager of Technology, started his journey at Killington the same way many others have: in search of community and a free ski pass. In 2018, he began working part-time in Guest Services, back when working at the ticket window truly meant selling tickets. Fast forward to today, now firmly in his role on our Business Solutions team, Reid says one of his biggest accomplishments has been moving the vast majority of our ticket sales from in-person windows to our online storefront. Now, the long lines of people he worked through in his Guest Services days are largely a thing of the past.

Reid’s role in Business Solutions has often been self-explanatory. Parts of Killington’s business will sometimes run into problems, and Reid has been the go-to guy for solutions, often through new technology. He relays the issues to our software providers and helps provide solutions that save precious time for employees all across the resort, from Water Resources to Lift Maintenance and everything in between. In fact, it’s easier to list the departments that he hasn’t worked with over the years. In this new role, Reid will oversee both our Business Solutions and Technology teams, and he’s excited to be in a more “boots on the ground” position again. When talking about our own staff members, he’s hoping that “people feel empowered to solve their own IT problems, but also confident in our ability to help them when we can.”

Over the years, Reid has come to find the community he was first searching for back in 2018. When thinking of a favorite memory of his years at Killington, he struggles to narrow it down to just one. Ahead of a previous Killington Cup race, he became a temporary Petra Vlhova fan after randomly choosing her name out of all the racers in a friendly workplace pool. “I ended up meeting her mom—she was a real sweet lady,” he says. Looking ahead, though he stays very active year-round, he says you likely won’t find him in the 100 Day Club again. However, he is looking forward to cross country skiing more this winter, preferably alongside his partner and their two dogs, Leo and Kip.

Emma Steinhart, our new Senior Retail Manager, is yet another graduate success story from the Resort & Hospitality Management program. Though she moved up to Vermont to get her degree in August of 2010, not everything has gone exactly to plan. “I liked that it was just three years [of work] for a Bachelor’s, though I really came up here to work for hotels,” she says. “Then things changed!” After graduating in 2013, Emma found her way to the retail team in 2015 and hasn’t looked back. In 2017, she was promoted to manager of Killington Sports at Route 4, our flagship retail location.

Throughout the years, Emma has appreciated Killington’s growth into a year-round destination that can support numerous opportunities for year-round staff. Much like Rob, she appreciates how she’s been able to retain staff over the years and watch them grow alongside her. In some ways, she’s already “seen it all” around here, having worked at one point in every single Killington base lodge and almost every Killington office building. After all, she was here for the entire lifespan of the large bear mannequin in our Route 4 store, which has now found a new home after around a decade at Killington Sports. Having said all that, she says she’s excited to learn even more about back-end operations in her new role, where she’ll oversee all of Killington’s in-person retail outlets.

At home, her role switches from senior manager to mother of two young children. Like many lifelong or adopted Vermonters, she enjoys spending time out in nature and includes her children in hiking and paddleboarding when possible. “I think becoming a parent changed me as a leader, too,” she says. “It’s helped me understand more people’s goals.” And for anyone with small children of their own who may be wondering, Emma is also hoping to get a new bear inside Killington Sports at Route 4 sometime in the future.

Julia Baldwin, our new Guest Services Manager, is one of the newest members of our team here at The Beast. She comes to us from nearby Okemo Mountain Resort, where she spent close to two decades in various guest services leadership roles. The move over to Killington has been a natural fit.

A longtime native of Plymouth, VT, Julia now leads a team of approximately a dozen summer Guest Services agents, which grows to approximately 40 team members in the wintertime. She oversees our many Guest Services locations across the resort, including Skyeship, Bear, K-1, and Ramshead Lodges during the winter and Snowshed Lodge during the summer.

From the start, it’s been clear that Julia is a team player. Never the one to look to garner attention for herself, her modest, soft-spoken manner carries naturally into her interactions with guests. She’s been a positive presence at our Guest Services windows since day one, and we’re excited to have her wealth of expertise leading our staff members.

Carol Saberin-Tener, our new Spa/Health Club Manager at the Killington Grand Hotel, has a history with Killington that dates back to the late 90s. She worked as part of our Ministars winter lesson program from 1998 to 2016, spending many of those years as a team lead before eventually running the whole program. As numerous Killington employees have done, she “came here for the mountains in the winter and stayed for the summers,” spending a few of those summers as the Town Pool Director in Randolph, VT. “I just liked Killington and all it has to offer,” she says. “Centrally located, it has good skiing, good mountain biking, some golfing. My husband and all of our kids are skiers, mountain bikers, and golfers. So it seemed natural.”

Carol’s favorite part about her original stint with Killington stems from the relationships formed there. “I’m still in touch with a lot of the Ministar parents, and also with most of the coaches that I trained over the years,” she says. “Some of them are now having Ministars of their own!” In her new role at the Grand Spa, she’s excited to continue improving the massage programs, including brand-new treatments like maple sugar scrubs and salt scrubs. When asked what she’s enjoyed about the gig so far, she mentions that she “really likes the staff, the guests... and the potential.”

This winter, Carol is excited to get back on skis and keep commuting to work each day with her husband Kinley, another longtime member of our Mountain Sports team in both the summer and winter. Outside of the Spa/Health Club, you’ll likely find Carol participating in one of her favorite hobbies: open water swimming, riding her bike, or baking.
