Stone Creek Resorts Welcomes Lady Macdonald All-Season Resort Designation

This marks an important milestone for the proposed Silvertip Gondola as an accessible year-round mountain experience in the Bow Valley.

CANMORE, Alta. — Stone Creek Resorts is pleased to continue shaping the future of Silvertip following the Government of Alberta’s designation of Mount Lady MacDonald as an All-Season Resort Area. The designation marks an important step in advancing planning for the proposed Silvertip Gondola.

The designation is a provincial land-use decision and does not approve construction, development or operation of the proposed gondola. Stone Creek Resorts is finalizing a Master Development Plan for review under Alberta’s All-Season Resorts Act and applicable environmental legislation.

“This designation is an important opportunity as we advance a new and accessible year-round mountain experience for Alberta families, visitors and outdoor enthusiasts,” said Shauna Dudding, President of Stone Creek Resorts. “We’re proud to continue building on years of environmental work, Indigenous consultation and community feedback as we advance the Silvertip Gondola Master Development Plan with a commitment to sound science, responsible stewardship and respect for this remarkable landscape.”

Stone Creek has heard a broad range of perspectives through years of public, Indigenous, stakeholder and technical engagement. Feedback on wildlife corridors, recreation, transportation, access and community considerations continue to inform the proposed project, including ongoing consideration of visitor management, safety, noise, lighting and visual effects.

The proposed Silvertip Gondola would connect the base station adjacent Palliser Trail through the Silvertip Village with an upper terminal on the summit ridge of Mount Lady MacDonald. The concept includes associated visitor, trail and utility infrastructure and is intended to create a managed mountain experience that supports year-round recreation and visitor access in the Bow Valley.

“For more than three decades, Stone Creek has been part of the Bow Valley, and we have always understood that the privilege of building and operating here comes with a responsibility to protect the landscape that makes this place special,” said Guy Turcotte, CEO of Stone Creek Resorts.
“The vision for Silvertip is to create a lasting mountain experience that families and visitors can enjoy while respecting the wildlife corridors and natural character that define this community for generations to come.”

Stone Creek will continue to share project information as its Master Development Plan application is filed and reviewed with the Province.
