Red Lodge Mountain: Redundant safety measures to the Triple Chair addedStatement: Red Lodge Mountain has conducted a rigorous and thorough investigation into the lift incident that resulted in the tragic fatality of one of our guests last spring. We involved independent experts, including professional weather forecasters and structural engineers, and have taken steps not only to repair, but also to add redundant safety measures to the Triple Chair. Specifically, the lift towers have been reinforced to further reduce deflection – the effect of wind on the towers and subsequently the haul rope. Additionally, anemometers are being installed at various elevations along the lift line to offer additional real-time recording of the wind speed on the Triple Chair. This will give lift operators more information about what is occurring along the lift line – not just at the top or bottom – to aid in lift operations decisions. Along with our other lifts, the Triple Chair underwent a thorough third-party inspection this off-season to ensure it meets all required Montana operating standards. Once required load testing has been completed and the lift has been approved for use by the US Forest Service, snow conditions permitting, we plan to reopen the Triple Chair for the 2025-26 season and provide resort guests with access to the terrain it serves. Thank you for your patience and support. We look forward to welcoming you back to Red Lodge Mountain. |
