Doppelmayr in Paris: Prototype of the Câble C1 cabin unveiled

On Thursday June 22 in Limeil-Brévannes, Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France Region and Île-de-France Mobilités, Olivier Capitanio, President of the Val-de-Marne Department and Sophie Thibault, Prefect of Val-de-Marne, unveiled the prototype cabin for the 1st ropeway in the Paris region, in the presence of local elected representatives. Tailor-made to meet everyone's needs, the future 100%-accessible cabins of this new mode of transport in the metropolitan region of Paris will offer users a new transport experience.

A cabin that's tailor-made, comfortable and accessible to all

The 105 cabins of Câble C1 will follow one another at regular station intervals (-30 seconds between cabins at peak times). They will accommodate up to 10 passengers, all of whom will travel comfortably seated.

The installation and operation of Câble C1 are 100% financed by Île-de-France Mobilités. The design of the cabins was the subject of in-depth customization by Île-de-France Mobilités teams, in consultation with future users as well as the manufacturer, the Doppelmayr Group (part of the Doppel France consortium). The exterior design was chosen by the people of Île-de-France during a public consultation in spring 2022. As for the interior fittings, everything has been studied to offer a comfortable transport experience accessible to all passenger profiles (people with reduced mobility, baby strollers, bicycles, etc.): modularity of seating, priority seating, opacity of lower glazed sections for comfort and to preserve visibility of homes, hand rails, real-time passenger information, security devices (camera, intercom), lighting, design, etc.

The prototype will undergo further refinement before the first series of cabins is manufactured in early 2024. The cabins will then be transported to the garage workshops at the Temps Durables* station in Limeil-Brevannes for testing in the first half of 2025. The cabins are 100% financed by Île-de-France Mobilités.

Financed by the Île-de-France Region (49%), the French State (21%) and the Val de Marne Departmental Council (30%), Câble C1 is a project managed by Île-de-France Mobilités. This new infrastructure, the first of its kind in the Paris region, will link the towns of Créteil, Valenton, Limeil-Brévannes and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.It will serve five stations, covering a total distance of 4.5 kilometers: Créteil-Pointe du Lac (Créteil), Temps Durables* (Limeil-Brévannes), Émile Zola* (Valenton), Émile Combes* (Limeil-Brévannes) and Bois Matar* (Villeneuve-Saint-Georges).

All stations have been designed with a unique concept: They will be all on one level, which means they will be 100% accessible in all circumstances.

Their architecture has been designed to seamlessly blend into their surroundings, with sober materials and green roofs.

Innovative, fast and efficient, this new public transport system will be an essential part of the Île-de-France network. It will also be integrated into the Ile-de-France fare structure, with no difference from a streetcar, bus or metro line.
