Whistler Blackcomb: Opening of Fitzsimmons Express

Last week, Whistler Blackcomb celebrated the opening of Fitzsimmons Express – a new high speed eight-person chairlift and the first of its kind in North America across Vail Resorts. Previously a four-person chair, the upgraded Fitzsimmons Express will reduce wait times, improve uphill flow and increase efficiency overall. Not only will this new lift redefine the skier experience out of Skier’s Plaza in Whistler Village, it will be a game-changer for the 25th anniversary season of Whistler Mountain Bike Park, servicing five riders and bikes per chair in Summer 2024.

„The opening of any new chairlift is a community endeavor, and we’re thankful for the guidance and counsel of our First Nations partners, the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation. It’s important to us that their culture continues to be represented across the mountains and in everything we do. In the Squamish language, Fitz is known as Sḵwexwnách for Valley Creek and in the Lil’wat language, it is known as Tsíqten which means Fish Spear.“
